AndySheepCentral New York (CNY) Fiber Artists and Producers, Inc. was organized to support the efforts of individual fiber farmers and artists in Central New York. The founding members came together with a desire to form a different sort of fiber guild - one that would include artists active in all of the fiber crafts as well as people just raising fiber animals. We sought to foster participation in and appreciation of the fiber arts as well as an understanding of the connection between fiber animals and the artistry they inspire. We also recognized a need for increased visibility and marketing opportunities for CNY fiber farmers and artists. Our annual CNY Fiber Arts Festival now meets that need as a new and growing fiber event in upstate New York, providing a venue for the exhibition of fiber animals, fiber products, and finished goods made from natural fibers. We also intend to assist our membership with other social and educational activities such as demonstrations, workshops, contests, and outreach.

Jacob Sheep CNY Fiber Arts Festival   Our 7th Year!   June 10 & 11, 2017      This year's focus is on the fiber art of Spinning!
Our seventh annual festival will be held once again at the Butternut Hill Campground on Route 20 in Bouckville, NY.  We hope you plan to attend!  We are also holding our fifth annual Fiber Fleece Sale for members.  We are hopeful to be bringing back a herding dog demonstration and will definitely have sheep shearing.   We also have started lining up fiber related and especially Spinning Workshops.  We are bringing back the Wheel Corral where you can try out a variety of different spinning wheels under the watchful eyes of the Cherry Valley Country Spinners guild who are willing to help you. It will be located right next to the guild near the back of Tent A - right in the middle of the festival grounds!   And we haven't forgotten the children - we have a fantastic Children's Tent with fiber related and agriculturally themed activities for all ages under the watchful eyes of caring volunteers.  Vendors throughout the festival grounds will be giving free demonstrations again this year.  The pace of our festival allows our vendors the opportunity to share with you some of the intricate techniques they employ to bring you their artisan creations.  We know you appreciate this opportunity to see what really goes into making these unique products and we're proud to show you the level of fiber arts expertise in our area.  Keep checking out our website and especially the festival What's New! webpage for details and updates as planning continues.

Other Activities

Fiber Resource Guide

We have discontinued the CNY Fiber Resource Guide as a separate publication and have replaced it with an expanded Festival Program which carries the same advertising opportunities.  If you are interested in advertising your fiber or agriculturally related business and/or festival sponsorship opportunities, please contact the President of our organization listed at the bottom of this page. If you were not able to attend last year's festival and are interested in contact information for many of our fiber vendors and supporters, contact the President to receive a copy of last year's Festival Program.

Livestock Workshops

The CNY Fiber Artists and Producers Board has been actively seeking grants to allow us to continue to support a growing fiber festival and to expand our services.  Providing workshops for our membership is high on that list.  Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to secure monies allowing us to do this at this time.  However, having said that, we are hopeful as the attendance at our fiber festival continues to grow and with our efforts to keep expenses down by utilizing volunteers and actively seeking sponsorships, that we may increase revenues to allow us to once again put on periodic workshops.

In November, 2012, members of the organization who raise llamas, alpacas, sheep, and fiber goats presented a workshop entitled “Is there a fiber animal in your future?”. We discussed housing and equipment, pasture management and fencing, health care and maintenance, marketing, and many other considerations. It was well received and we hope to add it or other similar workshops as annual events. If you are interested in specific workshops, demonstrations, or other educational activities involving fiber animals or fiber arts either during the festival or outside that event, please pass on your ideas to Viv Fulton (see contact info).
